Pay attention to copyright
File:Rachel Reeves July 5 2024.jpg has been marked as a possible copyright violation. Wikimedia Commons only accepts free content—that is, images and other media files that can be used by anyone, for any purpose. Traditional copyright law does not grant these freedoms, and unless noted otherwise, everything you find on the web is copyrighted and not permitted here. For details on what is acceptable, please read Commons:Licensing. You may also find Commons:Copyright rules useful, or you can ask questions about Commons policies at the Commons:Help desk. If you are the copyright holder and the creator of the file, please read Commons:But it's my own work! for tips on how to provide evidence of that.

The file you added has been deleted. If you have written permission from the copyright holder, please have them send us a free license release via COM:VRT. If you believe that the deletion was not in accordance with policy, you may request undeletion. (It is not necessary to request undeletion if using VRT; the file will be automatically restored at the conclusion of the process.)

Hello

[edit]

@Belbury Trust you are doing fine am kinda new here and trying my best to fit here, and its a lil bit frustrating to see some of my contributions been deleted.

Please are screen grabs from youtube with a link to the video accepted ? Afrowriter (talk) 07:15, 21 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hugo files

[edit]

Why did you delete the files? As of Danish Copyright Law: "Der er ingen krav om, at man skal registrere sin ophavsret, og der eksisterer derfor ikke et offentligt register over indehavere af ophavsrettigheder." I don't see why they were to be deleted as some of the images were official releases of Hugo games and posters. I even credited the right sources, and the company (ITE) that owned Hugo no longer exists. Tobee1406 (talk) 15:57, 23 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Tobee1406 Hi, I flagged the video game and album cover art as derivatives of copyrighted work, and marked File:Skærmtrolden Hugo.jpg as lacking evidence of permission. The deletions were performed by administrators, and it looks like other Commons users flagged your other uploads.
I'm not sure what your Danish text is saying, but it would be news to me if all video game and album artwork (and music and books and television and everything?) would be considered public domain in Denmark because copyright is never registered there.
You can request that the images be restored at Commons:Undeletion requests, or - probably more usefully - ask about Danish copyright at Commons:Village pump/Copyright. Belbury (talk) 16:04, 23 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I understand. But how is the English version of Hugo allowed to have the video game covers on that page? Tobee1406 (talk) 18:01, 23 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Tobee1406 If you're referring to https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Hugo_characters.png, that image is hosted on the English Wikipedia (not on Commons) and has a detailed copyright template saying how the image is recognised as copyrighted by Wikipedia but they argue that their usage of it "qualifies as fair use".
I'm afraid the Danish-language Wikipedia decided not to adopt a fair use policy - so where the English Wikipedia has a picture for en:Homer Simpson, there is no such image at da:Homer Simpson. Belbury (talk) 18:06, 23 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I was actually referring to this https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Hugo_2_Cover.jpg. So if I just fill it out as they have, it should be allowed to use? Tobee1406 (talk) 18:13, 23 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Tobee1406 If you want to add it to a page on the English Wikipedia, yes. Just go to the en:Wikipedia:File upload wizard and click the Upload a non-free file button to upload a file, answering all the questions truthfully: that it's a copyrighted video game cover but you believe it is fair use for the English Wikipedia.
If you want to add it to a page on the Danish Wikipedia, I'm afraid this isn't possible. Belbury (talk) 18:18, 23 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Alright, thank you for the guidance and wisdom. Tobee1406 (talk) 18:22, 23 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
No problem, sorry I couldn't give you a useful route onwards! Belbury (talk) 18:29, 23 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
